    Abstract:
In this work, we are dealing with problems in the queueing theory where clients show strategic behaviour and take independent decisions with respect to their transaction with the service system. These problems lead to mathematical models that combine queueing theory and game theory. Traditionally, queueing theory is focused on analysing one’s system function as regards overloading and delay of customers. Usually there are specific assumptions about the probabilistic distribution of customer arrival process and service time. In analysis of this type, the customer behaviour is known to be predictable and endogenously identified, without be affected by the operation of the system.

In real world, however, in most service systems, customers behave in a smarter way. This means that they react in crowded situations or long delay either postponing or completely cancelling their entry into the system, either reneging the queue if they notice long stays or with a few other ways. More precisely, the decisions taken by each customer separately and independently of the rest, affect the overcrowding and delays throughout the system. Therefore, when each customer decides in a rational way how to act, in this decision should be taken into account in a rational way, decisions of the other customers that also affected by the decisions of the others and so on. Mathematical models that are suitable for process analysis decisions with many deciders and interdependent policies are these of game theory. Problems that incorporate game theory models in the analysis of service systems have begun to be studied by the half of the 1950s. The last 10 to 15 years of research in this area has taken significant size.

My dissertation is structured as follows: The first chapter presents the basic theory of continuous stochastic process, with emphasis on queueing theory. Chapter 2 is devoted to the basic game theoretical aspects in queueing systems. Chapters 3 and 4 highlight the connection between the two fields. Specifically, Chapter 3 examines customer’s behaviour in queueing systems where the information about the number of customers wait already in queue is known. We call these systems as "Observable Queues". The "Unobservable Queues", systems that the client constructs his strategy without knowing the number of customers already waiting in the queue, are presented in Chapter 4. The 5th and most important chapter of my work is research oriented. In particular, we focused on the customer’s equilibrium strategies in service systems with retrials and breakdowns.
